All the attention may have been focused on South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier's return to college coaching, but Thursday
night belonged to Gamecocks quarterback Blake Mitchell.
On South Carolina's next possession, freshman tailback set up the Gamecocks' next score by taking a screen pass from Mitchell
and turning it into a 64-yard gain.
The Gamecocks cooled off from that point and a 22-yard field goal by [Josh Brown] with 2:46 to play in the second quarter
helped the Gamecocks head into halftime with a 17-3 lead.
