[Steve Spurrier]'s Gamecocks came within an eyelash of upsetting ninth- ranked Georgia on Saturday night at Sanford Stadium,
but a few big plays helped the Bulldogs hang on for a 17-15 victory.
Still, the Gamecocks needed only a field goal to take the lead, and looked to be in good shape when the South Carolina
defense had the Bulldogs facing third-and-22 from their own 8-yard line. Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley, though, threw
to Bryan McClendon for a 27- yard gain and a first down.
Brown was nearly unstoppable for the Bulldogs, gaining 97 yards on 12 carries, but South Carolina's defense held Georgia
to the lone score -- a 15-yard by Shockley with 13:40 to play in the second quarter that put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0.
