Auburn Clobbers Overmatched USC
CHARLES BENNETT
2 OCTOBER 2005

Auburn beat the Gamecocks, 48-7, in front of a capacity crowd of 87,415 at Jordan-Hare Stadium and a national television audience, forcing [Steve Spurrier] to acknowledge it as one of the worst games of his career.

Even though South Carolina (2-3, 0-3 SEC) finished with 199 yards in total offense, most of it came late against the Auburn reserves. The Gamecocks had 86 yards in total offense through three quarters.

"They struggled with a new quarterback," said Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. "He scared us more than the other guys because he was more mobile, but our guys contained him pretty much the first half. We put pressure on him and made him throw the football."
