'THEY RAN THE BALL DOWN OUT THROATS'
Crimson Tide flattens Gamecocks

Alabama handed South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier the worst home loss of his 16-year college career, quite literally running over the Gamecocks, 37-14, on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

South Carolina got off to a promising start. The Gamecocks scored on their opening drive of the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by freshman tailback Mike Davis, but they wouldn't score again until the fourth quarter. With 5:43 remaining, [Blake Mitchell] completed a 6- yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice that capped an 80-yard drive against the Alabama reserves.

"Even though Alabama is a little bit better team, we should have been more competitive than we were today," Spurrier said. "There's not too much to say, Alabama thoroughly beat us. They're a better team. They coached better, played better and they look like they' re going to have a big season."
