GAMECOCKS LAND KO
Simpson's second-half defensive TD sparks rout
CHARLES BENNETT
9 OCTOBER 2005

The Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) earned their first conference victory of the season and the first for [Steve Spurrier] as coach at South Carolina, but Spurrier didn't want to make too much of it.

South Carolina safety Ko Simpson turned one of the fumbles into instant points, picking up a fumble by Rafael Little and returning it 19 yards for a touchdown to put the Gamecocks ahead 30-16 with 13:54 to play in the fourth quarter.

Simpson set up the Gamecocks' next touchdown by picking off a Kentucky pass and returning it to the Wildcats' 14-yard line. That led to a 1-yard touchdown run by Daccus Turman.
